Swiffer Sweeper Dry Cloths on Vinyl Plank Flooring
No matter how tidy a person you are, your floors are liable to accrue dust, pollen, and if you have pets, dander and pet hair. The Swiffer Sweeper Dry Cloths are a great cleaning solution for these situations. If you aren’t a fan of sweeping with a traditional broom, this is your substitute. Less arduous than sweeping, the Swiffer Sweeper Dry Cloths pick up the dirt, dust, pollen, dander, hair and other particles that end up on your floors without the need for a dust pan.
Try to sweep, or Swiffer with the dry cloths regularly. Every two or three days should be enough, but if you have pets or kids then daily would be best.
Can I use Swiffer WetJet on Vinyl Plank Flooring?
The Swiffer WetJet Mop will have you shaking your head in disbelief to anyone you know who uses an old-style mop and bucket. To use the Swiffer WetJet Mop, you need the special WetJet Mop Pads, and the Swiffer WetJet Cleaning Solution.
The Swiffer WetJet can be used to get streaks of dirt or other marks you find on your vinyl plank floors even after sweeping with your Swiffer dry cloths.
The mop pads are specially designed similar to their dry cloth counterparts to actually lift the dirt particles off of the floor and hold them to the pad. Because of that, while you mop the rest of your floor, the dirt particles aren’t just being pushed around. The pads are fastened to the head of the mop by a velcro strip.
The Swiffer WetJet cleaning solution actually comes in different scents. So, you can choose what kind of scent (if any) you’d like to have permeating your home after you’ve finished making your floors sparkly clean. The regular mop pads for the WetJet mop work great, but there are Heavy Duty WetJet Mop Pads available as well.
TIP: To keep your floors shiny and polished looking, I recommend that you mop once a week. Frequent sweeping or swiffering will take care of the dry particles, but mopping will really get your floors shining.

How Is the Cleaning Solution Applied to the Floor for the WetJet Mop?
At the base of the mop, above the head where the pads are attached, there is a plastic holder piece that the cleaning solution bottle is set into. On the head of the mop there are two nozzles, one on either side of the mop handle, that spray the cleaning solution out onto the floor.
This spray function doesn’t require electricity, only batteries. You’ll need four double A batteries, but when you first buy the WetJet Mop it should come with the first set of batteries included.
Is the Swiffer WetJet Mop environmentally friendly?
Unfortunately, from an environmental viewpoint, the WetJet isn’t a perfect cleaning option. The WetJet mop pads aren’t recyclable, nor are they reusable. So, while you may be able to use a single mop pad for all of your vinyl plank flooring in one go, you still have to throw away the mop pad when you’re done.
While the mop itself is intended for multiple uses, the cleaning solution needs to be replaced when it runs out. There are claims online that you can save the bottle of the official cleaning solution, then make your own home made solution to refill it. There are a few problems with this idea however:
- Your home-made cleaning solution might not be safe for your vinyl plank flooring.
- Your home-made cleaning solution could damage the motor of the spray piece.
Can You Add a Cleaning Solution to the Swiffer Sweeper Dry Cloths?
No, the Swiffer Sweeper Dry Cloths have a special design that allows them to trap the dust and other tiny particles on your floor directly to the cloth. Adding a cleaning solution to use with the dry cloths may negatively impact the dry cloth’s ability to pull up the particles from the floor. If you want a wet cleaning solution, you’re best off to turn to its counterpart, the Swiffer WetJet.
